WE ARE ALBERTA BAMI-ASSOCIATION
Bamileke culture thrives in Alberta and Calgary thanks to the enthusiasm and dedication of its sons. Come discover and celebrate it with us.
It was founded in 2013 due to the needs of Balimileke families and friends to get together in touch for solidarities, educational, and cultural needs. Over years the association has evolved and is now recognized for its cultural and economic impact in Calgary.
Bamileke art refers to the artistic and cultural traditions of the Bamileke people of Cameroon, famous for their ornately decorated sculptures, masks and textiles.
These works are often used during religious rituals, royal ceremonies and community events.
Symbolically, Bamileke art represents royal authority, wealth, spirituality and connection with ancestors. The patterns and forms in Bamileke art are deeply rooted in the beliefs and values of Bamileke culture, making each piece a testament to their collective history and identity.
Traditional Bamileke dances, such as Mèbang, Lali, Mètchè, Kang and others, are deeply rooted ritual and cultural expressions.
Each, like the Mèbang reserved for queens or the Lali warrior by age clans, uses traditional costumes and specific instruments such as the Nteum Ndim drum. These dances are essential to mark the identity and cultural continuity of the Bamileke.
We hold monthly meetings to discuss the progress of our projects, share ideas and strengthen our collaboration.
